The school opened in 1955 as a junior secondary school and among the events that took place on that ceremony was planting a tree as a monument by the Kabaka of Buganda, Sir Muteesa 11. That tree is still visible as you enter through the main gate in front of the Mosque. Gombe secondary School is located in Gombe Town Council, Butambala County, Butambala District. It was founded by Buganda Government with an aim of educating daughters and sons of the chiefs It was also meant to educate children of the disadvantaged Muslims who had their seat in Butambala as their County.
Gombe is a co-educational Government Aided school with a current students' population of over 2300. We offers general academic subjects and vocational, 20 in number, and a wide spectrum of sports activities. The school, though Muslim Founded, admits students of all faiths. It provides secular education which is in line with the Uganda national goals and objectives-of education and at the same time teaches basic Quran recitation and basic Islamic knowledge to Muslim students:
